The Need To Train My Dog

For convenience, we will refer to your dog as “he” rather than “he or she”.

Training you dog is really a non-negotiable responsibility of dog ownership.  The consequences of not training your dog are serious for all people associated with your dog, as well as for your dog himself.  While the best and most effective age at which to train your dog is when he is still young, this choice may be outside your control.  Do not despair, because older dogs can still be successfully and effectively trained.

Some dog owners have little or no confidence when faced with the prospect of having to train a new dog.  Here is some encouraging news.  Training is a skill which can be learned.  There are many opportunities available today for you to learn these skills and at the same time to gain much enjoyment both from the learning and the application of these skills.

There are many who will benefit when you have a well trained dog, not the least being your dog himself.  Clearly you, the owner, and other members of your family will gain much joy and pleasure from owing a well trained dog.  As well, your neighbours will also appreciate having a well behaved dog next door or within ear shot.

At some stage in the lives of most dogs, and in particular at some stage in the life of your dog, the chances are that a time will come when you have to ask someone else to look after him for a short while.  This presents one occasion when the benefits of having a well trained dog will pay off.  Your dog is far less likely to fret at your absence and so not enjoy his holiday stay.

We wish you every training success and years of enjoyment for both you and your dog.

My name is Julian. I developed this website way back in around 1996 when it originally had the domain name dogtrainingproducts.biz. My father Brian wrote most of the articles himself, but unfortunately he passed in 2023. We had a vision to inspire and help others with their dog training after we owned 2 very naughty Manchester Terrier dogs. This website I keep running as a tribute to him and thanks to all Brian's efforts.
